Trellis does not have traditional user accounts (no name, email, or password to sign up) and does not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. We do not sell your personal data or share it with data brokers or advertisers. The sections below describe the specific data Trellis does handle, and why.
The goals, resource descriptions, and files (PDFs, images) you provide, and your conversations with the in-app AI assistant, are stored locally on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, this content is stored in your personal iCloud account via Apple's iCloud infrastructure, under your control — Trellis's developer has no access to it.
To generate and update your study plan, Trellis sends the relevant parts of your project — your goal, resource materials, attached files, and chat messages — to Anthropic's Claude API through our own backend proxy. This content is used only to generate a response to that specific request and is not used by us to build a profile of you. It is subject to Anthropic's own privacy policy, available at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
Trellis generates a random identifier for your installation (not tied to your name or Apple ID) and, for subscribers, an Apple-issued transaction identifier used to verify your subscription tier. Our backend uses these to track your AI Credits balance and enforce subscription limits. This data is operational only — it is not sold or shared with third parties, and is not used for advertising.
Subscriptions and credit top-ups are handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit and the App Store. Trellis never sees or stores your payment details — Apple processes and stores that information under its own privacy policy, available at apple.com/legal/privacy.
If you link a project to a PDF in our other app, Mimosa, the link and your annotation progress are shared directly between the two apps on your own device only, using Apple's App Group mechanism. Nothing about this bridge is uploaded to any server.
Trellis may request access to your photo library or camera (to attach an image to a project or a message to the assistant) and to files (to attach a PDF). These permissions are used solely for the content you explicitly choose to attach.
Trellis does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and has no account system that would let a child register directly. Parents concerned about a child's use of the in-app AI assistant should supervise use of the app.
